I am currently a senior at UWM, studying political science with the goal of joining public or private sector lobbying and advocacy. A large part of my focus in political science has been on economic development and environmental protections, working on reconciling the two and with the hope of working to advance the position of sustainable growth. Being born in Havana, Cuba and moving to Madison, politics has always been a part of my life. As a resident of Wisconsin, the environment has always been a huge part of my life. Growing up reading stories about John Muir and other famous conservationists from Wisconsin, I was determined to one day join the long and noble tradition of environmental work in the state. I couldn’t imagine living in this state without falling in love with the green places in-between. I hope to one day work to advance the position of the environment as an elected representative.
Because of this, sustainability-minded and environmentally focused policy are my main concern in the state. I am very excited to be interning with Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters and hope to gain more skills in the field of environmental lobbying and activism, as well as being able to work for a cause that I really believe in.
I’m a conservation voter because we have a duty to the land to protect it;u nless we have sustainability, we will not have prosperity.
