As Southeast Organizer, George works with volunteers, activists, and partner organizations in the community to hold our elected officials accountable for the decisions that they make regarding our natural resources and works to draw attention to important conservation issues in and around Southeastern Wisconsin.
I’m a conservation voter because I decided to work towards the change I wished to see in my neighborhood, city, state, nation and the world. If we want to continue living in a healthy and habitable world, then we owe it to ourselves and future generations to protect and preserve the environment.
I grew up in Milwaukee where I spent a great deal of my childhood in the outdoors. At an early age, I was exposed to the disconnect between people and the environment. Such disconnect motivated me to work on community engagement projects with Urban Underground, Marquette University, Urban Ecology Center – among others – and spent most of my summers and vacations at different camps and state parks.
As environmental stewards, I believe we are responsible for each other and the environment. That is why I decided to work at the Urban Ecology Center, where I mentored elementary and middle school student and conducted field research as an Outdoor Leader in high school. This and other experiences led me to decide to pursue a degree in political science and public policy at Marquette University.
One of the biggest challenges we face in our cities is that a majority of the people are left out of the decision-making process and aren’t aware of the deteriorative effects that environmental degradation has on our community on a daily basis.
It’s one of my life goals to develop a more environmentally conscience electorate and fight suppressive policies through engagement. With so much at stake, I know what I have to do – get involved! I understand how important the efforts of Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters are to creating the future we want for our state and country. That is why is excited to join the team.
