THIS WEEK’S NOTICES:

Oppose AB 547 & SB 600: Dropping State Protections for Wetlands

Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters urges you to oppose AB 547, which is before the full Assembly Thursday.

Wetlands provide critical protections for our water by filtering out pollution that runs off farm fields and urban development. Additionally, it is critical habitat for sustaining wildlife. AB 547 would remove protections for close to half a million acres of wetlands in Wisconsin, allowing them to be filled in for development. This could lead to increased flooding in our communities as well as decreased water quality.

Support SB 733: Updating Wisconsin Electronic Waste Recycling Law

Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters urges you to support SB 733, which is before the Senate Natural Resources and Energy Committee on Thursday.

Every year, thousands of tons of old televisions and video screens from computers are thrown into Wisconsin’s landfills. This electronic waste can leak toxic substances like mercury, cadmium, and chromium that can cause developmental problems in children or lead to cancer. SB 733 updates Wisconsin’s Electronic Waste Recycling law that was passed in 2009 to modify technology definitions and expand the program to eligible schools. SB 733 will continue to keep toxic electronics out of our landfills by requiring that producers of electronic waste collect and properly dispose of video display devices once they are no longer wanted by consumers.
