URGENT! Stop AB 840 to protect Wisconsin from higher energy costs and pollution
Across Wisconsin, large data centers are being proposed and built at a rapid pace. These facilities require enormous amounts of electricity to operate, yet current law does not require data centers to pay 100 percent of the full costs of their energy use, including connection to the electrical grid. Without strong safeguards, Wisconsin residents risk bearing the financial and environmental burden of these projects.
A newly introduced Republican bill, AB 840, would move Wisconsin backward by:
- Increasing energy costs for residents
- Limiting access to lower-cost renewable energy
- Failing to clearly require large tech companies to pay the full costs of their energy use and grid connections
- Increasing pollution in local communities
AB 840 is moving quickly through the legislature and is expected to be considered by the Assembly soon. If passed, it would leave Wisconsin residents exposed to higher utility rates and unnecessary environmental harm.
Take action now. Urge state legislators to reject AB 840!
