Wisconsin Conservation Voters has launched local clean energy campaigns in cities across the state, building upon the momentum seen in other Wisconsin communities like Green Bay, Dane County, Milwaukee, Eau Claire, and La Crosse, where local governments are making strong commitments to clean energy. Now more than ever, communities stand to benefit from the more than $369 billion clean energy and climate investments in the Inflation Reduction Act. Wisconsin Conservation Voters is looking for a motivated, passionate individual to join us on the frontlines of our clean energy future.

To achieve that, Wisconsin Conservation Voters advocates for sound environmental laws and policies, holds elected officials accountable for their votes and actions, and elects pro-conservation candidates who will champion our priority issues. What You’ll Do

You will work closely with our Central Organizer to build our Stevens Point Clean Energy campaign, recruit campaign volunteers, and engage volunteers to carry out tactics to pass clean energy policy. Your work will build towards a community-wide commitment to 100 percent clean energy by 2040 and the necessary infrastructure to reach that goal. Additionally, you will support the Central Organizer in sharing information to Stevens Point residents about the benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act. Specifics of the job include:

  • Increasing our youth and student volunteer base, building infrastructure to support those volunteers, and mobilizing volunteers to win the campaign.
  • Mentoring, training, and building skills and dedication of volunteers, while developing your own leadership and community organizing skills.
  • Carrying out key tactics such as phonebanking, door-to-door canvassing, postcard writing, and other tactics as needed in the campaign.
  • Attending and assisting the Central Organizer in facilitating Stevens Point Clean Energy Team meetings on a regular basis.
  • Building a more powerful, cohesive, and active organization that is racially, politically, age, and socio-economically diverse.
  • Recording and tracking data and reporting progress.

What You Should Know

Skills: Demonstrated commitment to environmental, racial justice, and democracy issues; ability to work well in a dynamic environment; ability to handle multiple projects at a time; understanding of, or ability to learn quickly about, environmental issues and politics and their potential to engage the public; passion for Wisconsin Conservation Voters’ mission and work.

Technical skills: Comfortable with databases, Google Drive, and Microsoft Office.

Conditions: The position will be located in Stevens Point. The position is part time and temporary through August 2024.

Compensation and Details: $17/hour; phone stipend and mileage reimbursement for work travel provided. Approximately 10-15 hours per week through August 2024. Flexible schedule.
