CNOW for Jan. 7, 2025
Today's conservation notices:
- Oppose SJR2 & AJR1: Baking the discriminatory voter ID law into our Constitution
- Oppose LRB0775/1 & 1244/1: Creating more hoops for clean energy
Greetings and Happy New Year!
Wisconsin Conservation Voters welcomes all new legislators to the 2025-26 session! Conservation NOW (CNOW) announces the pro-conservation positions on issues before the Senate, Assembly and/or Governor in the week ahead to state legislators. Others wishing to follow activities in the state legislature also receive CNOW, including legislative staff, conservation voters, and media.
All of these issues are tracked on the Vote Tracker. Issues in the CNOW may appear in the Conservation Scorecard, to be released in the summer of 2026. Legislators who receive 100 percent on our scorecard in the 2025-26 session will be recognized as conservation champions.
Please note that our Vote Tracker is still being populated with this session’s data for each legislator. This process should be complete by week’s end (Jan. 10). However, due to district shifts under the state’s new maps this may take a bit longer to process than usual.
If you ever have any questions, please contact Government Affairs Manager Peter Burress by email at peter@conservationvoters.org or phone at 920-421-3601.
Oppose SJR2 & AJR1: Baking the discriminatory voter ID law into our Constitution
Wisconsin Conservation Voters urges you to oppose SJR2 & AJR1, which are before the Senate and the Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections on Wednesday.
The right to vote is a fundamental aspect of our democracy. Wisconsin should be finding ways to ensure that every person eligible to vote has access to the ballot. SJR2 & AJR1 work against this goal by proposing a constitutional amendment that would bake our discriminatory voter ID law into the Wisconsin Constitution. This would disproportionately impact voters of color, transgender voters, voters with disabilities, and low-income voters.
Oppose LRB0775/1 & 1244/1: Creating more hoops for clean energy
Wisconsin Conservation Voters urges you to oppose LRB0775/1 & 1244/1, which are circulating for co-sponsorship.
Investments in large-scale wind and solar energy will reduce pollution from burning fossil fuels, which is better for our health and our environment. The Public Service Commission reviews all energy projects following a deliberative process that allows for public input. LRB0775/1 & 1244/1 would create a new process requiring local government approval of projects that do not exist for other, more polluting sources of energy.
