2026 Spring Election

The stakes of the 2026 Wisconsin Supreme Court election on April 7 could not be higher.

In Donald Trump’s second term as President, our worst fears are being realized. Corporations are being handed unfettered influence to our lives, data, and money. Environmental protections are being dismantled, and communities across the country are being put directly in harm’s way with devastating consequences. At the same time, our democracy is under sustained attack through efforts to undermine elections, ignore the Constitution, and consolidate power under increasingly authoritarian aspirations.

That’s why the courts matter more than any other time in modern history.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has proven to be one of the most important checks against authoritarian overreach at both the state and federal level. It can uphold the Constitution, protect fair elections, defend clean air and water, and ensure that no one – not even a president – is above the law. This spring’s election is a crucial opportunity to protect those values for years to come.

Why this election matters

We don’t know exactly what lies ahead, but we do know this: Donald Trump will continue to test the limits of the Constitution and attempt to overturn democratic outcomes to impose his will. Between now and 2030 Wisconsin faces a series of pivotal elections:

  • 2026: Governor, Attorney General, State Legislature, and Congress
  • 2028: State Legislature, U.S. Senate, and President
  • Every spring through 2030: a Wisconsin Supreme Court election will take place

Over the past three years, voters flipped and protected a pro-conservation, pro-democracy majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Now, by electing Judge Chris Taylor on April 7, we can ensure that this pro-conservation, pro-democracy majority lasts until the 2030 election

Victory this spring ensures that our democracy and environmental protections cannot be dismantled in a single election.

Judge Chris Taylor for Wisconsin Supreme Court

Wisconsin Conservation Voters proudly endorses Judge Chris Taylor for Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Judge Taylor is running to ensure that the Court remains fair, independent, and impartial and to stand up for the rights, health, and freedoms of all Wisconsinites.

She currently serves on the Wisconsin Court of Appeals and previously sat on the Dane County Circuit Court. Before becoming a judge, she served nearly a decade in the Wisconsin State Legislature, where she earned a reputation as a skilled and effective leader, and one of the few lawmakers able to pass bipartisan legislation.

Her experience also includes working as an attorney and policy director for Planned Parenthood, where she fought to protect fundamental rights and access to care.

Judge Taylor brings a rare combination of judicial experience, legislative leadership, and deep respect for the Constitution. She is the only candidate in this race with the experience, integrity, and independence this moment demands.

The contrast: Judge Maria Lazar

Judge Taylor’s opponent, Judge Maria Lazar, is a member of the Federalist Society – the same extreme judicial pipeline that elevated the most extreme members of the U.S. Supreme Court.

While Lazar presents herself as “nonpartisan,” her record tells a very different story.

Time and again, she has ruled in favor of corporate interests over working people, even as corporate greed continues to squeeze families struggling to survive and thrive. When you look at who funds her campaigns, it becomes clear whose interests she serves.

While serving on the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, Judge Lazar ruled that the Department of Natural Resources could not hold corporate polluters accountable for contaminating Wisconsin communities with toxic, cancer-causing PFAS chemicals.

Her decision stripped the DNR of its ability to protect people from dangerous pollution, putting corporate profits ahead of public health. That ruling was later overturned by the Wisconsin Supreme Court, underscoring just how dangerous her judicial philosophy is and how vital it is to elect justices  who will stand up for our communities  and the environment.

This election will shape Wisconsin’s future for years to come. A victory for Judge Chris Taylor means:

  • pro-conservation, pro-democracy majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court until 2030
  • Stronger protections for clean water, clean air, and public health
  • Courts that defend fair elections and uphold the Constitution
  • A judiciary that serves people, not corporations or political extremism

Wisconsin needs a Supreme Court justice who will protect our rights, our environment, and our democracy. That justice is Judge Chris Taylor. We are proud to endorse Judge Taylor for Wisconsin Supreme Court. Vote Taylor on April 7.
