Wisconsin Conservation Voters Statement on Supreme Court Decision in Sackett v. EPA
May 25, 2023
Washington, D.C. – In response to the Supreme Court’s decision in Sackett v. EPA, Wisconsin Conservation Voters’ Government Affairs Director Jennifer Giegerich had the following statement:
“Today’s Supreme Court ruling has put the interests of corporate polluters ahead of the needs of communities. This decision puts the health of people and local ecosystems in danger, particularly Indigenous communities, communities of color, and those most vulnerable to pollution.
“The EPA’s ability to protect the waters our families depend on is necessary, and polluters and their allies have worked to undermine that power since the passage of the Clean Water Act. In Wisconsin, communities across the state face threats of water contamination caused by corporate polluters. Holding these corporations accountable is necessary to the health of our state. Congress must fix the damage done by this Supreme Court by passing new legislation to safeguard our waters, and to expand and rebalance the Supreme Court.”
