2018 - Electoral Victory
Conservation voters elect Sarah Godlewski to State Treasurer's office
Sarah Godlewski won the State Treasurer's office in a sweep of statewide offices by pro-conservation candidates including Gov. Tony Evers, Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, Attorney General Josh Kaul, and Secretary of State Doug La Follette.
After years of neglect, the office was nearly extinct. However, one of the treasurer's primary responsibilities is a seat on the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands. This three-person panel manages $1 billion in state properties and funds, which help pay for public school libraries and the University of Wisconsin System. The treasurer sits on the board with the attorney general and secretary of state.
These successes didn’t just happen. Voter mobilization was key to electing conservation champions, and Wisconsin Conservation Voters, once again, ran one of the largest field programs outside of the campaigns themselves. Dozens of volunteers knocked on tens of thousands of doors in small towns in key districts to talk with folks about their conservation values and the candidates who would stand up for them.
Wisconsin Conservation Voters invested more than $1.5 million to elect Tony Evers Governor, Mandela Barnes Lieutenant Governor, Josh Kaul Attorney General, Sarah Godlewski State Treasurer and support state senate candidates dedicated to conservation values and committed to defending clean air, clean water, and open spaces.
