Establishing a Sustainability Commission in Green Bay

State and federal officials' lack of leadership on sustainability has created opportunities for local governments to rise to the occasion and set our communities on a path toward a clean energy future. Dane County’s government buildings run 100 percent on renewables and last year the City of Eau Claire made a pledge to achieve 100 percent renewable energy by 2050.

Green Bay is taking steps in the same direction. Conservation voters and our friends at the WISDOM affiliate Justice Organization Sharing Hope and United for Action (JOSHUA) in Green Bay collaborated to bring a Sustainability Commission to life. Now citizens and city officials are bringing together folks from all across the community to work toward sustainability goals. Seth Hoffmeister, our field director, was picked to lead the commission.

Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich, who took the Wisconsin Conservation Pledge as a candidate, announced just before Earth Day that he was putting the city on a path to 100 percent renewable energy by 2050.
