Legitimate sporting organizations thwart shady United Sportsmen

A first attempt to award the Sporting Heritage Grant really went off the rails when the grantee, United Sportsmen, was found to not be a nonprofit, run by a man who had been cited for hunting with the wrong license and lying to the warden when he was caught, and was completely inexperienced in training or recruiting sportsmen.

Wisconsin Conservation Voters and other sporting organizations pushed back until Gov. Walker rescinded the grant.
