Bill Description
The Wisconsin Constitution establishes three co-equal branches of government to ensure appropriate checks and balances over policies that impact our families and environment. AJR 133 & SJR 124 would concentrate power in the hands of the Wisconsin legislature by proposing a constitutional amendment allowing the Wisconsin legislature to kill any health-based standards, without oversight from the executive branch.
Current Status
AJR 133 was introduced on Jan. 29, 2026, and referred to the Assembly Committee on Government Operations, Accountability, and Transparency. It received a public hearing on Feb. 4, 2026, passed out of committee on Feb. 10, 2026, and passed the Assembly on Feb. 12, 2026.
SJR 124 was introduced on Feb. 2., 2026, and referred to the Senate Committee on Licensing, Regulatory Reform, State and Federal Affairs. It received a public hearing on Feb. 10, 2026, and passed out of committee on Feb. 12, 2026. The Senate passed AJR 133 on Feb. 18, 2026.
The Governor does not take action on proposed constitutional amendments. If AJR 133 passes both the Assembly and Senate in the 2027-28 legislative session, it will go before Wisconsin voters.
