Bill Description
Voting is a right. Currently, Wisconsin has one of the most stringent voting rights restoration policies in the nation, only allowing rights restoration after fully completing the terms of a sentence – including probation, parole, and extended supervision. AB 87 & SB 95 would make this problem even worse by adding additional requirements before rights are restored. This would take us backward in the fight to protect Wisconsinites’ freedom to vote.
Current Status
AB 87 was introduced on Feb. 28, 2025, and referred to the Assembly Committee on Judiciary. A public hearing was held on Mar. 4, 2025, and it passed out of committee on Mar. 11, 2025. SB 95 was introduced on Mar. 7, 2025, and referred to the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety. It is available to be scheduled for a public hearing.
