AB 995 & SB 982 : Extending delays to setting health-based standards

Bill Description

Under current law, it already takes too long to set health-based standards for contaminants from polluted air, water, and soils. These standards are important for protecting Wisconsinites. AB 995 & SB 982 make the process even longer by adding an additional 6 months to the timeline for rule finalization.


Current Status

AB 995 was introduced on Jan. 30, 2026, and referred to the Assembly Committee on Government Operations, Accountability, and Transparency. It received a public hearing on Feb. 4, 2026, and passed the Assembly on Feb. 12, 2026.

SB 982 was introduced on Feb. 6, 2026, and referred to the Senate Committee on Licensing, Regulatory Reform, State and Federal Affairs. It is available to be scheduled for a public hearing.
