Bill Description
Updated commercial building energy codes lower energy bills, while improving the health, safety, and comfort of building occupants. AB 450 & SB 475 would further delay the update of our state's building codes until April 2026, after already being delayed by 10 years.
Current Status
AB 450 was introduced on Sept. 25, 2025, and referred to the Assembly Committee on Housing and Real Estate. A public hearing was held on Sept. 30, 2025, and the bill passed out of committee on Oct. 2, 2025. AB 450 passed the Assembly on Oct. 7, 2025.
SB 465 was introduced on Oct. 2, 2025, and referred to the Senate Committee on Licensing, Regulatory Reform, State and Federal Affairs. A public hearing was held on Nov. 5, 2025, and the bill passed out of committee on Nov. 7, 2025. AB 450 passed the Senate on Nov. 18, 2025.
Gov. Evers vetoed AB 450 on Dec. 5, 2025.
