AB 955 & SB 940 : Politicians micromanaging health-based standards.

Bill Description

To protect our families from environmental contamination, our state agencies need the ability to efficiently and effectively advance health-based standards, based on the latest science. AB 955 & SB 940 would disrupt this process by requiring explicit statutory authority for any new administrative rule.


Current Status

AB 955 was introduced on Jan. 29, 2026, and referred to the Assembly Committee on Government Operations, Accountability, and Transparency. It received a public hearing on Feb. 4, 2026, passed out of committee on Feb. 10, 2026, and passed the Assembly on Feb. 12, 2026.

SB 940 was introduced on Feb. 6, 2026, and referred to the Senate Committee on Licensing, Regulatory Reform, State and Federal Affairs. It received a public hearing on Feb. 10, 2026, and passed out of committee on Feb. 12, 2026.
