SB 1029 & AB 1048 : Protecting renters from environmental hazards

Bill Description

Renters have a right to know if their apartment contains dangerous environmental hazards like lead. SB 1029 & AB 1048 would restore the ability of local communities to run inspection programs that ensure rental properties are safe.

Current Status

SB 1029 was introduced on Feb. 17, 2026, and referred to the Senate Committee on Insurance, Housing, Rural Issues and Forestry. It is available to be scheduled for a public hearing.

AB 1048 was introduced on Feb. 26, 2026, and referred to the Assembly Committee on Housing and Real Estate. It is available to be scheduled for a public hearing.
