Bill Description
Renewable energy is the cleanest and cheapest energy. It also provides critical economic support for landowners and communities across our state. AB 174 would require a higher burden for siting renewables by requiring caps on the amount of acreage that could be used for clean energy development. It would also require renewable energy systems, but not fossil fuels, to have to purchase conservation easements to be sited.
Current Status
AB 174 was introduced on Apr. 14, 2025, and referred to the Assembly Committee on Energy and Utilities. It is available to be scheduled for a public hearing.
