SJR 5 & AJR 6 : Eliminating the Governor’s Ability to Spend Federal Dollars

Bill Description

Wisconsin communities depend on the quick deployment of federal dollars to protect their drinking water, fund clean energy projects, and respond to extreme weather emergencies. SJR 5 & AJR 6 would eliminate the governor’s ability to quickly distribute this federal funding.

Current Status

SJR 5 was introduced on January 27, 2023, and referred to the Senate Committee on Universities and Revenue. A public hearing was held on January 31, 2024. It passed out of committee on February 5, 2024.

AJR 6 was introduced on February 6, 2023, and referred to the Assembly Committee on Ways and Means. It passed out of committee on April 3, 2023. The final version of AJR 6 passed the Assembly on February 22, 2024, and passed the Senate on March 12, 2024.

The Governor does not take action on constitutional amendments. Instead, AJR 6 will now go to Wisconsin voters.

Wisconsin voters should vote "no" on this constitutional amendment in August 2024.
