AB 498 & SB 551 : Providing New Voters With Voter Registration Opportunities

Bill Description

We should encourage first-time eligible voters in high schools to register to vote. Assembly Bill 498 & SB 551 take an important step toward including young voters by requiring every school board in Wisconsin to provide eligible high school students with voter registration forms and nonpartisan voter education materials.


Current Status

AB 498 was introduced on October 18, 2023, and referred to the Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections. A public hearing was held on October 19, 2023. SB 551 was introduced on October 23, 2023, and referred to the Senate Committee on Shared Revenue, Elections and Consumer Protection. It is available to be scheduled for a public hearing.
