To build a democracy that works for everyone, we need to build systems that encourage young voters to make their voices heard on Election Day. Prior to 2012, Wisconsin’s public high schools were required to offer voter registration opportunities. This requirement was eliminated under former Governor Walker’s administration. Assembly Bill 499 & SB 562 restore requirements that public high schools offer voter registration opportunities to eligible students.
AB 499 was introduced on October 18, 2023, and referred to the Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections. A public hearing was held on October 19, 2023. SB 562 was introduced on October 23, 2023, and referred to the Senate Committee on Shared Revenue, Elections and Consumer Protection. It is available to be scheduled for a public hearing.
Ask your legislators to support AB 499 & SB 562.
