SB 778 & AB 841 : Supporting Farmers Who Help Tackle Climate Change

Bill Description

Wisconsin agricultural practices are central to our ability to limit carbon emissions and mitigate the impacts of climate change. SB 778 & AB 841 create a sustainable agriculture grant program that would be administered under the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection. Under this program, the Department would award grants to certain farmers to implement on-site fossil fuel input efficiency measures, plant vegetation that helps sequester carbon, and develop a conservation management plan.


Current Status

SB 778 was introduced on December 8, 2023, and referred to the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Tourism. It is available to be scheduled for a public hearing. AB 841 was introduced on December 22, 2023, and referred to the Assembly Committee on Agriculture. It is available to be scheduled for a public hearing.
