The Clean Energy Green Bay Plan

On Dec. 5, 2023 the Green Bay Common Council voted 9-to-2 in favor of adopting the Clean Energy Green Bay Plan, moving the city towards a clean energy future. The plan outlines how municipal operations and the community at-large can reach 100 percent clean energy and carbon neutrality by 2050. It takes a close look at the near term and provides realistic solutions for how we can reduce carbon emissions 40 percent by 2030.

For over five years, Wisconsin Conservation Voters has been organizing local residents and working alongside dedicated community members, businesses, and organizations to support the City of Green Bay’s sustainability goals. We applaud Mayor Eric Genrich and the Green Bay Common Council for their leadership and for propelling Green Bay toward a sustainable future. The Clean Energy Green Bay Plan will save residents money, create good-paying clean energy jobs, and help combat the climate crisis.

The plan itself represents more than a year-and-a-half of research, planning, seeking input from residents and businesses, working with partners within the city and across the community to produce a roadmap that will allow Green Bay to transition to a clean energy future. The Clean Energy Green Bay Plan was developed by the community, for the community.

This is a significant realization of one of Wisconsin Conservation Voters priority campaigns, but the work is just getting started. Now that there’s a plan in place, we need to get to work and implement it. The collaboration across the community that produced this roadmap to the future is going to be crucial to ensuring that the ideas on paper become a reality.
